The famous "Investigator of Nightmares" (which this year off the 300 candles in the monthly series) ended 2010 with a history issue, a story that has not been seen for some time through its pages (except for "Mater Morbi" which was released just 12 months earlier) and that brought me back to the past, stories like "Johnny Freak" controversial stories which touch with intelligence and imagination of the painful issues that accompany humanity in everyday life.
This time, Dylan, with the help of the medium that has so much to heart, is struggling with the ghost of a young woman who finds peace and not involving in its previous life who come into contact with his ectoplasm .
The story begins with a visit at his home in Craven Road by a group of teenagers who, at first with the good, then, with the bad, you are escorted out of town in a clearing the edge of the road is where a bizarre encounter. Our
Dylan finds himself having to deal with the ghost of one of their dear friend that is parked in that place, morning, noon and night, the day on which a car accident took the lives of the few yards away. What's unique, in addition to staying in that place, is that, although intangible, is able to convey to those who come into contact with the ectoplasm his memories of the past life, creating veritable reincarnations temporary, however, "impact" with smooth functioning of the lives of each victim. As if all this were not enough happens that every day a second ghost appears on the scene, a little dog, who, growling and barking and axle emerges from the clearing surrounding the first leg and bit into the spectrum of procuring real tears after the outburst and its temporary disappearance heal as usual.
Although the memories of the girl began to interact with the thoughts and actions with the same Dylan who came into contact, they can, through a series of narrative twists, to arrive at the head of the affair, involving the investor of the girl, confessed that he is serving the sentence in prison and can not find peace for what happened, an old acquaintance (in all senses), the medium Madame Trelkovsky and, finally, an elderly lady who lives in solitude a house in the suburbs of London and is the pivot of the whole affair.
In the same clearing the woman, the day that had happened the fatal accident to the girl, was burying his dog in which a few hours before he killed himself with his own hands because the poor creature, only companion and friend in his solitary existence, was sentenced to die in a few days for a incurable disease. But he had just finished burying him, there came to his ears the noise of the accident a few yards away was just the girl involved. The woman crossing the clearing in front of the body of the young man in a pose decomposed and absorbed in the blood is the last faint panting breaths of life that escapes. The behavior of the woman, who, seeing the seriousness of the situation, felt that no Relief would come in time, the door to act in the same way as her pet and takes off the last breaths of life.
The two restless spirits after the story seem to take on because of their awareness of the permanent force on this earth, the little dog jumps meekly in her lap and both the young, greeted their friends, accompanying them across the border to a better life.
The current theme that comes out of the last balloon cartoon is, therefore, to euthanasia, understood as the ultimate act of love. A topic that, unfortunately, in our daily life and involves so many people involved in their dearest affections, a theme that the author (The talented Paola Barbato) has dealt with intelligence knowingly enter (not easy) in the context of stories about a character whose world "speech bubbles" ranges from the horrors and not otherworldly: a fictional story then, but made for reflect the harsh reality!
